Refugee Relief is a new 501c3 non-profit that launched in the Fall of 2018. It was birthed after founder, Scott Steinloski, visited a refugee camp in northern Uganda. He witnessed starvation, disease, malnutrition and lack of basic human necessities. It was obvious to him that current relief efforts were unable to keep up with the flood of refugees pouring into Uganda from its war-torn neighbors.
This situation is not unique to Uganda. Every year, millions of refugees are forced from their homes due to war, conflict and persecution. 85% of refugees never come to Europe or the United States. Most flee into neighboring impoverished countries with little resources. They are at the mercy of the host country and any relief agencies working in the area.
Our vision is to bring hope to refugees struggling to survive regardless of religious affiliation. We follow the example of Christ by providing the necessities of life for refugees around the world. To accomplish this we partner with local, in-country ministries and non-profit organizations to distribute food and other necessities in the name of Jesus.
Mark gradutated from Lee University with a degree in Sociology. He began his career as a youth pastor in Georgia and has been in pastoral ministry for over 25 years. Mark and Michelle are currently the Lead Pastors at City Light Church in LaGrange, GA. If you spend any time with them you will learn that they have an infectious love of life. They love seeing people find God and discover His purpose for their lives.
Michelle Rutter has more than 20 years’ experience leading efforts for some of the world’s most recognized brands such as Disney, Miramax, Mattel, and World Vision. In 2006, Michelle joined World Vision’s Sponsorship Division helping to connect and build relationships between sponsors and their sponsored children. Shortly after, she assumed leadership of the Extra Gifts Program. In addition, during her six-year tenure, Michelle managed the Gift Catalog and Single Gift Programs. Since leaving World Vision Michelle has consulted for many non-profit clients.
Jordan graduated from the University of Washington School of Law with an LL.M. in taxation focusing on advising clients with regard to their estate planning and business planning. He then completed his J.D. at Regent University, cum laude. He began his career as a lawyer at Paine Hamblen, LLP focused in the areas of estate planning, business law, and other tax-related matters. Currently, Jordan is a Wealth Management Trust Adviser for US Bank.
Julie graduated from the University of Colorado with degrees in International Affairs and French Language. She began her career as a French teacher in Boulder, CO. After teaching for five years, Julie accepted a French speaking technical support position with General Electric. After nine years with GE, Julie founded a technology-driven vacation rental business in Coeur d’Alene, ID which she sold in 2015. Julie now holds an Advanced Salesforce Administrator certification and works in a technical capacity with both corporate and non-profit organizations. Julie joined her husband Scott on a trip to Uganda in February 2018 where God placed a burden on her heart for those forced from their homes now living in refugee camps.
Scott graduated from Lee University and started his career in radio. After 5 years, he began a successful advertising agency. His company, In Touch Marketing, created and implemented successful marketing plans and branding campaigns for corporations and non-profit organizations. In 2014, Scott walked away from his business to accept the position of VP of Marketing and Communications for Partners International. As part of his job, he made a trip to film the work of pastors in the refugee camps of Northern Uganda. What he saw there would change his life forever. He felt God was asking him to do more to help the starving, malnourished refugees he'd just met. In June 2018, he gave two month's notice to Partners International and started Refugee Relief.
